Expansion Joint Repairs at Chase Field

Presented by:  TJ Valdez, Sales Manager, Twenty One Tech Company

When a high profile, high visibility structure has a large scale failure, the fix must be a durable, long term solution. At Chase Field, almost every horizontal structural expansion joint in the seating area had failed and even in a stadium with a retractable roof, water is ever present. The failed joints coupled with the regular hosing down of the seating area had caused the concrete to deteriorate around the joints creating problems ranging from tripping hazards to possible structural concerns.

This presentation will cover the repair methods and materials used over the past five years at Chase Field as well as give you a peek into the solutions proposed for the repairs this coming offseason. The specific needs of the project changed from year to year and the presentation will show how the materials used had to adapt to areas that required additional fire rating, different traffic conditions, excessive movement, and tapering joint sizes, just to name a few.

Please attend to learn the behind the scenes design that went into this complex project.
