Vision 2020 was a 2004 cross industry event sponsored by 9 organizations and facilitated through the ACI Foundation's Strategic Development Council. It documented and roadmapped 13 original goals that have been being implemented to organize the concrete repair industry. There are now 15 goals around the theme of Sustaining Concrete that are being managed by the Concrete Repair Council. One goal was to develop a Concrete Repair Code to establish evaluation, design, materials and construction practices, raise the level of repair/protection performance, establish clear responsibilities, and provide building officials with means to issue permits for existing concrete structures. Since the code is a fairly complicated performance based document (unlike ACI 318 which is highly prescriptive) a joint committee from ICRI and ACI was formed to develop "Notes and Work Examples" on the code that are nearing finalization within the next few weeks. Another outcome of Vision 2020 is the development of repair specifications, with ACI 563 developing reference and ICRI 110 developing guide specifications. Because the concrete repair industry is emergining into its own profession, ICRI is implementing a new strategic plan to focus on education, certification, and networking opportuniites for the concrete preservation community. This presentation will briefly cover these and other topics of interest to the Arizona ICRI Chapter while attempting to answer questions about these "interesting times" for our industry.
